Just read on the Tamworth fans facebook page that The Southern League have announced
they plan to restart on Dec 12th, however teams can play scheduled games on the 5th
and the 8th if they wish?

Still doubt I will be able to see a game before the new year but fingers crossed and at least
it is a bit of good news in a mad world.

My slight concern is the league getting some govt funding (that in itself is good) which possibly opens the door to some behind closed doors games which is the worst of all solutions and which they have totally ruled out previously.

From what I can see fans are being allowed back and up to 50% of capacity, I think prem grounds are limited to 4000, but we will just have to wait and see how things go.
I  am sure bumbling Boris will come up with some more impractical   ideas to mess things up.

My worry is Tamworth will be in the top tier. Are cases are not great unfortunately

I can almost guarantee Merseyside will be in the top tier so highly unlikely even if fans are allowed
to attend I will be able to travel :(

From what I can see Tamworth is in Tier 2 which is good news :)

Tier 3 I'm afraid. No fans. This will cause chaos in our league. Some clubs in tier 2 can play with fans in attendance but the others not allowing fans in. The southern league has stated that clubs can not afford to put matches on without a crowd. Wonder if this season will be abandoned again.

I feared that the extension of the govt package of funding to steps 3-6 was possibly a harbinger of some fixtures behind closed doors (the worst of all solutions for me) and we could be headed that way.

You can't have a situation where half the league can play and half can't. That would make a mockery of the competition so my educated guess (and it is just a guess) is we will see a mixture of restricted attendances and behind closed doors with grants for the foreseeable and I can't be arsed with streaming or any of that nonsense either.

Irony of all ironies col.

Liverpool city region dropping to tier 2 on the day Staffs enters tier 3!

It's a sop to the scousers as they have behaved themselves while in Tier 3

Sorry for the misinformation, I googled it and saw that Tamworth was in tier 2.  Sadly that was wrong :(

Scousers always behave, well most of the time the blue ones do :)

I actually thought I was gonna get down for a game at last.  Oh well, masybe sometime in the next decade :)

There'll be 2,000 at Goodison for the Chelsea game just as we get fans banned!

At least we can get back to fox hunting and grouse shooting mind.

Typical of my luck, can't go to Goodison cos I can't get a ticket and can't  go to the lamb cos some
overpaid upperclass tory twits(sic)  say I can't.

I'd rather go Hancock hunting and Gove shooting :)

Keep safe mate.

So, zoom call Tuesday for clubs to decide to extend suspension or restart with tier 2 areas with limited crowds and the rest of us behind closed doors.

Tough decision but I say suspend it. Football minus fans has been sh*t at all levels but it would be an open ended potential disaster at our level. If we show we can play behind closed doors, that could go on for months.

I agree, football without fans is a pointless exercise. The only thing worse than football without fans is the extremely annoying crowd noises they use in the top leagues to pretend things are normal.

I cannot see how non league clubs can afford to pay players when they play with no crowds, seems like a recipe for disaster to me.

I heard a really good analogy here about football fans during this year.

You can say to a football fan you can't go to the game but watch it on this stream instead and to someone who isn't a match going fan that is an acceptable solution...but that's essentially like saying to someone who has been banned from going up their allotment, "here's a bag of carrots and a bag of spuds from the Asda"

It solves a problem in the eyes of someone who doesn't understand the problem.

Yeah. I've nicked it but sums up exactly how I feel. I love an evening or two down in Worcester in the summer watching the T20. Didn't watch a ball of the T20 blast this year on telly.

Completely agree, when you watch a sporting event live even if your team is rubbish at least you have like minded fans you can moan to/with.  I get bored watching football on TV, even MOTB bores me, I only watch it if Everton win or the Sh.te lose.
Sport is to be watched live, I am either 100% involved or not interested.

Any update on this Pricey, nothing on club website or Facebook?

I have just looked on the Southern League website and it hasn't been updated since Nov 19th.

Tamworth FC site last update was the 25th Nov.

If I am right they had a virtual meeting on Tues to decide what was happening and since then nothing.

Very strange.

No. Zoom call was yesterday evening. Feedback and agreement from clubs today. Southern League planning to announce the result before the end of Thursday is how I understand it.

We had no plans to start our league this Saturday do not quite the urgency of some of the other leagues.

Thanks for the update Pricey. Would have been nice if the club had put something out.

The club has never mentioned our centre-back leaving a few weeks back or the promised progress about the floodlights. Not a peep.

If you could guarantee we'd be out of tier 3 in four weeks' time and that we wouldn't be going back in it then I think restarting at the start of Jan is the obvious easy decision and then clubs aren't disadvantaged in terms of those in tier 3 v tier 2.

However, with there being no certainty of that, it becomes very tricky as a delay beyond that and we would need a miracle to finish before the end of May. I truly don't envy them one bit.

The other problem with this timeline now is there's no guarantee we wouldn't get a freezing February which caused a load of cancellations.

In short, it looks like the league fixtures will continue to be suspended now with a review due to coincide with the govt reassessment of tiers on 16th Dec and the announcement of any grants from govt as it appears they were a little misleading last week (how unlike them I hear you cry!). They announced £14m funding for steps 3-6 but it appears 80% plus of that money is loans rather than grants.

Can’t see 16th December bringing any massive change though.

No. I agree. With the covid holiday coming up on 24th, I can't see the govt altering much before then at all. The vast majority of tiers will be unaltered on the 16th I think.

NLP reporting FA approval for fans in Tier 3 areas for non league games. 15% of ground grading capacity. Now, if that is each individual ground that gets us roughly our 600 back. For Rushall etc, 300.

Story needs flesh on the bones but that could sway some votes come the reviews.

No fans at all while in Tier 3 say Staffs Council despite govt advice and the FA saying we can.

Well, the government need to stump up then because Staffordshire isn't coming out of tier 3 any time soon and I can't see us, Hednesford, Stafford, Kidsgrove, Chasetown etc having money to play behind closed doors for any serious length of time.

Season in question again now surely?

The Northern Premier restarted and had half a dozen games across their three divisions but I can't see the point of some teams playing and others not. You just end up with massively unbalanced league tables and I'm not sure how you then measure a completed a season if some teams have played 60% of their games and others 20%.

Don't be so negative. We've had a world leading response and now we have a vaccine that will have vaccinated the whole country around about the same time as we ban the sale of petrol and diesel cars. It'll be fine.

I tend to agree with you. I can't see how this season can be played out to a satisfactory and sensible conclusion within a sensible timescale and on which I'd be happy for promotion and relegation to be decided. We started 4 weeks late, not a ball has been kicked in the league throughout the entire months of November and December. The season can't be allowed to run on forever and the idea of these regional conferences to then be added back together to make a full league is not a good solution either.
