Must admit losing likes of Hoenes and then more importantly Obeng was slightly worried. Today with new signings announced much much happier. C19 will have a massive impact on teams budgets in this league and looking good that Board fully backing our Management team. Had initial doubts how not 1, not 2 , but 3 ‘managers’ could work together but it certainly looks like they have a much bigger knowledge base on players who could perform for us at current level as a 3. Having the Management Team back in full for me also shows a massive determination in them wanting to right the wrongs from the season that didn’t happen, as well as a large chunk of last seasons squad resigning. Just hope when we start obviously belated that the League Committee don’t pull the rug with 12 games to go again because some of the teams below us get get upset that there below us once again. Remember Blue Blazers never change colour, as doesn’t other clubs self interest Thumbs Down

In fairness, you can't knock any club acting in self interest. They have at every level of the game and it is understandable as they aren't charities.

As for us, having a lot of the same players will be a plus. Most successful teams have continuity and are very rarely thrown together in the space of a summer. Cause to be moderately optimistic when we start.

Took me a while to work out what you meant. I know you're a southerner but you're not from Louisiana! The word's Autumn! ;-)

As for the new boys, if fit and up for it, Lindon Meikle is one of those players like Laity who can change a game on his own so fills that gap well.

O'Connor's signing looks a bit like Hearn's was to me. Been there, seen it, done it, still decent but will probably play as big a role in bringing on McDonald, Creaney and Waite as he does on the pitch.

Will still be able to chip in but I doubt he'll play 90mins 40 times a season - could still have a positive impact though.

How wrong you are Pricey. Loads of Wiltshire’s undesirables were sent on ships to America in bygone days. Strong connection ever since. A fall out from that (see what l did there) is that certain American slang have been used by us Wilts for centuries. Another one which is used a lot is ‘you can’t put lipstick on a pig”, Wilts has a strong agricultural background hence the pick up. There you go a bit of education for all you Midlanders and anyone else born north of Watford. Always willing to help you lot up here.Thumbs Up

Understandable yes, It still doesn’t make it right however.

Genuinely feel a bit educated. Would honestly never have known that. Thought "fall" was exclusively for the other side of the pond.

I think my favourite regional phrase is to describe someone not too appealing to the eye "got a face like a bosted frog".

As for the self interest bit, it was why consulting clubs would never work. I could have predicted with 100% accuracy the clubs in the prem who would have voted for null and void, PPG and play on respectively.

It'd be like govt asking manufacturers to set import and export tariffs. They'd all have a hugely self interested agenda and it would be absurd.

The edict should've come down from the authorities and applied to every division. The PL and championship are being dictated to by the god of sky, L1 and L2 plus step 1 and step 2 clubs are taking a huge financial gamble on play offs. It'll pay off for the winner and be a needless financial burden for all the others.

I've not watched a minute of the football behind closed doors. Jock Stein was right - "football is nothing without the fans..."

Google the whole quote if you like. It's older than me but it nails this situation exactly.

I know you’re a big fan of Hoenes but they were both a little light physically and it didn’t take much to get them off the ball. These new additions look a lot stronger on the ball and hopefully that will get more shots in the back of the net.

Obeng was possibly stronger than you give him credit for and had a real good run the 6/7 weeks before lockdown - sad to lose him really.

Hoenes- A season off thirds for me. First, took time to settle in and wondered why he was so highly rated. Second absolutely dynamic turning into a world beater at this level. Third, Referees got to grips with his well organised tumbles.
Obeng- Loved him to bits, attitude, desire, effort and will really miss him. His replacement will have to up his game to match Obengs ability to produce a piece of magic out of nothing.

Football is football and you don’t know what goes on but would have hoped Obeng would still be playing for us, as to be fair Luke Little.

Big mistake letting Luke go. He stepped up when he was asked and hardly ever put a foot wrong. Always felt he was underrated. Great right back. They will regret him going. Mark my words.

Right back was the position that truly caused us a headache last year. Having lost Kris Green (good player), the intention was to use Chris Cox (was injured, then did ok, got sent off, had a fanny fit, disappeared), Rashaan Frances (quick, with potential but this level was too much too soon), Henri filled in a bit (did well like he did everywhere), Fordey filled in (wasn't terrible but isn't a full back in a million years and I would've just left him in midfield), Luke Little (really looked good both going forward and defending) and now we roll the dice again.

I hope we are a bit more consistent with Bateman this time.

So with our first friendly soon upon us on 8th August do we actually have a complete team yet. I’ve tried different avenues to try and get any information on players ready to step onto the pitch but failed. Anyone!!!!

Singh, Bateman, Gough, Magunda, LRT, Beswick, Tonks, Yafai, Fry, Waite, McDonald, O'Connor, Meikle (plus a few trialists I'd think)

Not a bad basis of a squad. Hopefully a few more quality signings will make us title contenders again.

What about our Mr. Forde. I thought I’d read somewhere he’d signed

He has Bof. Looks like a pretty good squad again with maybe a couple of additions still to come?

Yeah, apologies, had missed all 3 but was just trying to do them off the top of my head while packing the car for a day walking alpacas (no, I was the spectator holding the baby but I wish I had!)

Yeah, 16 signed and I'd imagine a few trialists to sort the wheat from the chaff and we'll be nearly ready to go.

I have to say however, friendlies being behind closed doors is no great upset to me. Never enjoy them and I imagine the atmosphere will be similar to most friendlies.

Not sure how C19 will impact on other budgets in our league but me thinks many will be weaker. Can see some down the A14 could even be playing youth teams in the worst case scenario. We could already have a squad to match most in the up and coming compact season. Key words here “We just don’t know”.

I think having a lot of last year's squad will be a help. In this weird situation or otherwise, that continuity does help.

Continuity key word. Another, injustice, job not allowed to be done last season. How many have returned because of that.

Our squad must be the best, by far,in this league. It's a pity that the season is unlikely to be completed if a second wave of Covid happens.

Yes, it’s looking good.
Pity we are going to have to wait so long before we see them in action.

We bought Tom Tonks in March and then there was the ref breakdown postponement, then Corona kicked in, then the delayed season start. He must be on a non injury related record for longest time at a club without making his debut!
