It appears Celtic have been given the go ahead, to install " German " style safe terracing.

About time to:

Hillsborough was a tragedy , but:

Atmosphere at most grounds has declined.
Prices into grounds have gone too expensive
Crowds have declined at most grounds
Even the Hillsborough " campaign " group will not be holding anymore Anniversaries of what happened in 1989.

Well done Celtic.

Football is designed to have some Terracing.

Lets hope the ENGLISH FA , think less about Hillsborough and bring into place German Style safe terracing.

Society has become too much of a " nanny " state in recent years.

What next - banning alcohol.

The difficulty here Alf is it requires an Act of Parliament. The ban on terracing in the top two flights is enforceable by law in England after the Taylor Report and only MPs could remove that. The ban is not and never has been enforceable in Scotland. Their top clubs complied but were not compelled.

A successful trial at Celtic could help us try to get the legislation amended but it is a lot more complicated down here sadly.

This article is not brilliant but does highlight the different legal situations north and south of the border.

I'd love to see standing back and do believe it is safe but I also think it's still a long way off due to the legislation.

The bad news is time flies. The good news is we are the pilots

German football - the best to watch for ambience / atmosphere ( due to the terracing / low prices tickets ). Players " feed " off this accordingly.

Sadly, embarrassing to watch alot of games in England these days.

German football is in a better state than England in terms of value for money and fan ownership I absolutely agree but it is now probably the second most predictable major league in Europe after Scotland because Bayern are utterly dominant as a result of having shedloads more money than anyone else so there is no panacea these days.

If football wanted to be more fan friendly, there are many things it could do including compulsory fan ownership which with a few exceptions (Wolfsburg, Leverkusen) works well in Germany in keeping ticket prices down and supporter engagement up, and nationwide salary caps which work well in both rugby codes would certainly make things more competitive but it's a massive cash cow here and on the continent so these innovations seem miles away.

Abolishing the Champions League would be a start but at the moment I'm even enjoying that watching United and City embarrass themselves on an annual basis. It used to be horrendous when United, Liverpool etc were doing well in it.

The bad news is time flies. The good news is we are the pilots

Just a thought. Does this mean that our friends up the a38 wouldn't be permitted into the championship should they win promotion?
