Well a few friendlies under the belt now and honestly shouldn’t we be putting these teams to the sword and our strikers having target practice ready for a big kickoff and show our metal in the league.

Should be but apart from some half chances, it just doesn’t seem to be clicking and these teams like Matlock who just sat, pressed and counter attacked are going to a common theme come first game.

We played some decent stuff today, the final ball was poor at times and we gifted them a goal and nearly two others by messing about with the ball and making silly mistakes. Get them out the way now but on paper we have goals but so far it doesn’t look like it has clicked and hopefully come Peterborough it will do and we can give them a good hiding first up

Yeah, as above, we certainly looked a bit toothless today. There looked a particularly big number 9 shaped hole but a fit Dan Creaney (not quite there yet) might fill that.

As for the game, I have thought since Step 3 split into these 4 divisions, we are in a slightly weaker league than the north and today bore that out. Matlock are not amongst the favourites for that division but they were well organised and broke well. In terms of the best chances of the game (and I accept some were of our making), they had them.

The defence looks not far off. Some lapses of concentration but that happens at our level and the back 4 plus potentially Bateman, Gough and Cullinane-Liburd looks strong for the level.

Midfield was decent enough last year and adding Tonks and Meikle strengthens that. It's up top that we'll have to wait and see. We'll need a cutting edge to get out of this league

Anyone fully understand how "the rule of six" is going to affect us?

Now that 6 people is the most people you can have anywhere indoors or outdoors except for school, work, shops, pubs, restaurants or to participate in organised team sports (I'm passing no comment on the sensibleness of this policy before anyone gets upset about politics), what do you think happens to the league?

SL have said they won't play without fans so do we get the season put back or is the situation that 1k for non League finals day in wembley's 90k stadium (the new govt advised limit) and 600 at Rushall Olympic or Peterborough Sports are viewed as equal in terms of effective social distancing?

Fair enough - good news certainly.. Very very odd announcement then that could best be described as disingenuous I think.

Strange game. They were a division above us and I think overall it told. We weren't awful but we did give one soft goal and one semi soft but admittedly well taken goal away.

They were just that bit sharper and more efficient round the pitch and one shanked effort after 90mins apart, Asante had a terrific game for them, holding the ball up and linking play well.

No Ty and no Joe Magunda was a bit of a concern and it's a little disconcerting that Goughie isn't involved. Fit and in form, he is as good a full back as there is in our division.

McDonald looked lively and promising, Walters showed flashes too and getting an hour or so out of Creaney is a plus.

Pre season is no great guide to league form but I'd say our pre season has been middling and on the basis of that, it's hard to have a very strong view, positive or negative, on how we'll fare in our early league fixtures.

Last friendly should have been a team ready to take on the season, not still testing. Our first game needs to be on form not the first time the team’s playing for the full 90 minutes. But what do we know. Perhaps our management have an ace up their sleeves and will romp this season. Time will tell. Good luck TFC.

Good luck for the new season TFC.  See you a week on Sat for the St Ives Town game, Covid19 and train cancellations permitting :)
