It now looks increasingly likely that over the coming weeks, the first football to be played will be behind closed doors. If you are in the PL or the championship where TV money is the main (in the case of PL) or a significant (in the case of the champ) source of your income then I can see the appeal of moving the season to a conclusion or even restarting next season behind closed doors if behind closed doors was still the situation come August/September.

In the case of clubs like us, is there any point whatsoever to football behind closed doors? The income stream other than sponsors, who may have difficult financial situations of their own thanks to the virus would be absolutely zero and the entire squad and management would have to be "unfurloughed" so costs would increase hugely.

Can you see a situation where clubs at our level would decide not playing at all is preferable to taking part in the transition period where sport is staged without spectators?

Also, if the govt permitted sport without crowds (as seems an inevitable first step), would this invalidate the furlough scheme clubs like us have enrolled in on account of our staff now being able to go to work?

There are some huge issues for the game to iron out before life gets back to normal. I can't see any way we get through without losing a lot of teams at our level if the FA and the PL don't dig very deep.

Behind closed football may work for some clubs. Premier League teams obviously. At our level many clubs show highlights through YouTube. Maybe clubs could stream live matches on a subscription basis during the lockdown. The logistics would be everything, delivering content to a viable audience. How much would people pay?

I've been a season ticket holder for a decade and watched regularly prior to that and I wouldn't be prepared to pay to watch us on YouTube so I can't conceive of us being able to cobble together a viable audience.

How much would you pay?

If the quality was better than the highlights, maybe £5 tops. Only if though, the volunteers do a great job with the highlights, not sure I could watch a full 90+ minutes. Any other ideas for fundraising welcome?

Yeah, I wasn't knocking the lads who do LambsvTV. Not many clubs at our level can boast that sort of provision at all so no slight on them but I wouldn't want to part with a subscription that cost money. My direct debit will continue to go to Team builder but nothing beyond that at the minute.

Need to keep my funds back for betting on the Belarus league (I haven't bet on it but yes they have played on all the way through!)

https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.thenational.ae/sport/football/66-players-out-of-contract-why-the-premier-league-could-vote-for-a-june-30-finish-1.1006850

And there is the issue, even for PL clubs. It may be possible to sort something for their players short term but it is unlikely to be replicated down in L1/L2 and if the leagues end up concluding on different formulae from one another then it creates another problem in itself.

Football will be able to resume behind closed doors at some point in the medium term future but with Euro 2021 plonked in the summer, next season must finish on time or you risk some international players playing through this summer, next season, another full summer before starting 21/22 in a right state.

This will bring about a player welfare issue on top of this financial disaster. As unpalatable as it seems, they might have been better taking the plunge and finishing themselves even if null and void.

They could still vote to cheer up the nation and relegate villa on the grounds of Jack Grealish being king knobhead of the lockdown.

Pricey I have missed something along the way. Your love for the “Villains” is obvious, does this have some kind of Peaky Blinders connection? Starting to get a little stir crazy by the way!

If you've ever met a villa fan, you'll get it. I don't know if you have to pass a moron test to get into villa park or if going through the turnstile instils it in you but by Christ they have more than their share don't they?

David Cameron, Prince William....need I go on?

See your point! Once worked with a rabid villa fan who spent his shift singing about “no surrender to the IRA”. This was long after the peace had broken out!
Thought Cameron was a West Ham fan! Or was it Villa. Perhaps it was Burnley?

David Cameron is absolutely a villa fan. Whether he ran round the playing fields of Eton pretending to be Dennis Mortimer I can't confirm.

I suspect his choice, like with Prince William was to pick a club who were big enough for people to have heard of but small and irrelevant enough that outside the west midlands, not cared about by most. If you are an Everton/Liverpool, City/United, Arsenal/spurs fan etc there are a large number of fans who dislike you.

Unless you live in the west midlands, you don't really care about villa. Col sees them as a similar club to Stoke, Watford, Palace etc who lucked out in 82:and won half as many European cups as Nottingham Forest.

For most of the country who don't suffer like us with real life Villa fans telling us how massive they are and getting arsey when you ask, "really? Why did you shut part of the ground when you were in the championship then?", they aren't really an issue.
